The "Bathtub Capital of the World", AKA Nanaimo, was first occupied by the Coast Salish people, known as the Snuneymuxw (Snuh-NAY-moo). Europeans first made landfall in the late 1700`s, and many years later coal was discovered. Soon the small First Nations village became a hub of activity with the population ever growing, all due to the discovery of a natural resource.
