The southern end of Loughrigg is a rocky summit known as Todd Crag with brilliant views in all directions.
The cache is located close to Lily Tarn which is a favourite spot of ours.
It takes less than half an hour from Ambleside to the top. Although the path is not suitable for pushchairs, it is an excellent first fell walk for youngsters.
From Ambleside, follow the path through Rothay Park, over the stone bridge, turn right over a cattle grid, then left over another cattle grid. Follow the roadway/bridleway past the houses. Go over the wall steps (signposted Clappersgate), then over the bridge and head uphill.
At this point you can either head left for a circular route to enjoy the viewpoint over the lake or continue uphill for a more direct route to Lily Tarn.
