Geocache Description:

Using a GPS for geocaching should be necessary to find every cache - but does a GPS destroy our basic map and compass skills. When out on the open moor I try to avoid using the GPS until very close to each cache, relying solely on map and compass. I often surprise myself by how bad my skills have become, or occasionally by how brilliant they are, but it is something that gives great satisfaction when I get it spot on.

Whilst wandering the moors I have occasionally come across important features which have somehow escaped the notice of the cartographer, but which are excellent for practising our map and compass skills. This series of caches uses these features to allow you to practise your skills.

The above coordinates are for a small cache which gives the magnetic bearing (m) to the feature shown in the spoiler photo. For this first cache the distance to be walked is one straight line of less than 1km. The final cache is a short distance from this feature on a bearing of m-40. The exact distance is given in the first hidden cache.

The final cache was hidden months ago, before I had decided how it might be used, but it is still there completely untouched when I tested the route today.

The challenge is to find the final cache using map and compass only, and please state in your log whether you achieved this. All finds will be accepted and no logs will be deleted.

I would like to thank the Dartmoor National Parks Authority for their kind permission to allow me to place this cache.
