Geocache Description:

Flakstad kirke er første gang nevnt i skriftlige kilder i 1413. Ei kirke på Flakstad ble bygd i 1430. Den ble ødelagt av storm på 1700-tallet. Den nye kirka ble bygd av tømmer fra Russland. Den ble bygd utenpå den gamle kirka. Ei av lysekronene i kirka kommer også fra Russland. Flere av gjenstandene i dagens kirke stammer fra den gamle kirka, deriblant to lysekroner, altertavla og prekestolen.

En orkan blåste tårnet av kirka i 1874. Tårnet ble deretter satt opp i vestenden av kirka. Under restaureringen i 1938 ble tårnet satt tilbake på plass midt over korskrysset i kirketaket.

Flakstad church is first mentioned in written sources in 1413 A church on Flakstad was built in 1430. It was destroyed by the storm in the 1700s. The new church was built of timber from Russia. It was built around the old church. One of the chandeliers in the church comes from Russia. Several of the objects of the present church dates from the old church, including two chandeliers, altar and pulpit.

A hurricane blew the steeple of the church in 1874. The tower was then erected in the west end of the church. During restoration in 1938 the tower was put back in place in the middle of the cross junction of the church roof.
