Pred 20 milionmi rokov sa niekde v tychto miestach nachadzalo
pobrezie pravekeho mora. Pocas vekov sa na jeho dne usadzoval
piesok a v nom zvysky zivocichov - ulity, lastury, zralocie zuby.
Ked more ustupilo, pieskove nanosy sa casom spevnovali a vytvarali
pieskovcove vrstvy. V miestach, kde bola vacsia koncentracia
lastur, sa z nich vyluhoval vapnik a spevnoval okolity
pieskovec.
Praveka historia opat ozila, ked boli tieto vrstvy odhalene pri
tazbe piesku. V pieskovni pri Lipovanoch bolo najdenych mnoho
zvyskov pravekych vodnych zivocichov a zralocich zubov. Odkryte
boli aj gulovite utvary z tvrdsieho pieskovca, vzniknute spevnenim
vapnikom.
Dnes sa v tychto miestach uz piesok netazi, lokalita je chranena
a pristupna vsetkym, ktori maju zaujem o geologiu. Bohuzial spodna
pieskovcova lavica, kde by sa mali nachadzat zvysky zivocichov, je
vacsinou zasypana erodovanym pieskom z vyssich vrstiev a iba raz za
par rokov je vycistena. Ak nenajdete v odkrytom profile ziadneho
pravekeho lasturnika, odporucam pozriet si kamene, na ktorych su
polozene tunajsie lavicky.
Keska je umiestnena necelych 200 m po ceste za odkryvom. Ak
pojdete od Lipovian, profil urcite neminiete.

20 million years ago, somewhere around here was the shore of the
prehistoric sea. The sand was sedimenting on the bottom and
contained remains of water animals – shells, scallops, shark
teeth. After the sea had given way to the land, the sand sediments
were hardening to form sandstone beds. In places where scallop
concentration was high, their calcium was leaching into the sand to
form harder sandstone.
The prehistory came back to life when the sandstone beds were
uncovered by sand mining. In the Lipovany sand mine, a lot of
prehistoric animal remains were found. The spheres of harder
sandstone, developed by calcium infusion, were also uncovered.
Nowadays, the sand is no longer being mined here. The areal is
protected and accesible to everyone interested in geology.
Unfortunately, the lowest sandstone bed with all the fossils
visible is usually covered by eroded sand from the higher layers
and is cleaned just once in several years. If you can’t find
any shell or scallop in the sandstone profile, I recommend to have
a look at the foundation stones of the local benches.
The cache is placed some 200 m from the outcrop, up along
the road. If you are coming from the village, you surely won't miss
the profile.
