Movie collection: Com’era verde la mia cache.
Questa cache della serie “Movie collection” è ispirata al film “Com’era verde la mia valle” diretto nel 1941 da John Ford e ispirato all’omonimo romanzo di Richard Llevellin. Gli interpreti sono: Maureen O'Hara, Walter Pidgeon, Roddy McDowall. Il protagonista Huw, sessantenne, ricorda la sua infanzia in un piccolo villaggio minerario del Galles, in cui, ultimo di sette figli, viveva con la sua numerosa famiglia. Il padre, il patriarca Morgan, e tutti i suoi fratelli lavorano nella miniera, come tutti uomini della comunità. Sua sorella, la bella Angharad, è innamorata del pastore protestante Gruffydd, ma sarà costretta a sposare il figlio del padrone della miniera per dare un sostegno alla famiglia. Quando i minatori scendono in sciopero per migliorare le loro condizioni di vita, il paese si divide tra chi vi aderisce e chi no a causa della terribile miseria in cui versa. Anche Morgan, alla fine, dovrà recarsi al lavoro nonostante lo sciopero prosegua. Intanto tutti i suoi figli, stanchi delle dure condizioni di vita cui sono costretti, preferiscono lasciare il villaggio andandosene lontano in cerca di fortuna. Quando il vecchio Morgan muore in un’esplosione della miniera, Huw rimane solo in casa con la madre. Anche a lui, ormai adulto, non resta che partire. Quando il film inizia la miniera è già chiusa e il paese praticamente spopolato ed è la memoria di Huw a ripercorrere i momenti più significativi del passato all’insegna di un rimpianto nostalgico per i tempi in cui l’unità e l’armonia regnavano in quel microcosmo povero e semplice, ma sostanzialmente felice, che era la sua famiglia.
Il Mugello nel Pliocene era un antico lago (3 milioni di anni fa) che sedimentandosi ha coperto vegetazioni di alto fusto originando depositi di lignite. La cache è posta vicino alla chiesa di San Giovanni in Petroio da cui si può godere di un'ottima visione del lago di Bilancino, il cui recente invaso ha coperto alcuni giacimenti di lignite di cui a Barberino esisteva una miniera fino a prima della guerra.
Movie collection: How green was my cache
This cache of the serie “Movie collection” is inspired by the film “How green was my valley” directed in 1941 by John Ford and based on the book of same title of Richard Llevellin. The actors were: Maureen O'Hara, Walter Pidgeon, Roddy McDowall. The protagonist Huw, sixty-years old, remembers his youth in a little village of Wales, in which, last of seven brothers, lived with his large family. The father, the patriarch Morgan, and all his brothers work in the coalmine, like all the men of the community. His sister, the nice Angharad, is in love with the pastor Gruffydd, but she will be forced to marry the mine owner’s son to give support to the family. When the miners call a strike to improve their way of life, the village is divided between those who are in favour or against the strike because the terrible poverty in which they lived. Even Morgan, at last, is obliged to go to work in spite of the prosecution of the strike. In the meanwhile all his sons, tired of the heavy way of life to which they are compelled, prefer to left the village going far away looking for fortune. When the old Morgan dies in the explosion of the mine, Huw remains alone at home with the mother. To him too, at last, remains the only chance to leave. When the film begins the mine is already closed, the willage is pratically depopulated, and is the memory of Huw to run again through the most significative moments of the past, as a meaning of a nostalgic regret for the times in which the unity and the harmony reigned in that microcosm poor and simple, but foundamentally happy, who his family was.
The Mugello valley was a lake in the Pliocene (3 million of tears ago). The sedimentation covered big trees creating a deposit of brown coal. The cache is placed near the church of San Giovanni in Petroio from which you can enjoy a nice view of the Bilancino lake which recent cration has covered the opld mines of brown coal existing near Barberino before the WWII war.
