This cache is located in a very public area which is commonly used as a hangout spot for local teens. This cache is in easy view of three businesses --- stealth is going to be needed.
I have noticed when I get close to this structure my GPS accuracy level gets worse. These coordinates should be within 10 feet. However, if you’re having trouble, use the hint. The hint will narrow down where to look, but it will not tell you where it is.
THE HISTORY
Built as a small Victorian structure by the Alabama Midland Railway to serve as a way-station along the Bainbridge-Montgomery route, this 1888 structure was the only town building to survive the devastating fire of 1915.
The Alabama Midland Railway was consolidated into the Atlantic Coast Line which then merged in the 1980s with Seaboard Air Line to form the Seaboard Coast Line. (Yea, that got confusing -- feel free to read it again ... lol) CSX bought Seaboard Coast Line after the Ashford Depot fell into disuse in 1978.
In the 1980's, some citizens of Ashford joined together in order to restore the Depot which began dilapidation after its abandonment. This group disbanded in the early 1990's. In 2000, the new mayor reestablished this committee, which incorporated in 2005, and it is still active today.
