Located on the renowned and beautiful Queen Charlotte Track that is very popular with both walkers and mountain bikers.
The Queen Charlotte Track is a multi-day walking and mountain biking trail stretching 71 kilometres from the legendary Ship Cove in the outer Queen Charlotte Sound to Anakiwa at the head of the Grove Arm. The whole track takes 3-5 days to complete walking and 2-3 days for mountain bikers. However, the many access points available by public road and by water transport also make the Queen Charlotte Track very popular for single day outings.
To reach the Anakiwa end of the Queen Charlotte Track, drive from the Picton or Havelock end of the Queen Charlotte Drive. Turn into Anakiwa Road at Linkwater and drive 4 kilometres to the Department of Conservation (DOC) Information Shelter and car park at position S 41 15.842 E 173 55.228.
The Seat With A View is approximately 1 kilometre past Umungata (Davies) Bay and 3.7 kilometres and approximately 1 hour walk through beautiful native bush from the Information Shelter.
The track is relatively flat from the Information Shelter to Umungata (Davies) Bay then ascends at an easy grade to the seat location. There is a beautiful view across the Grove Arm from the seat.
You don’t have to leave the track to retrieve the cache container. Bush cover may affect GPS readings but you should get there.
