Post 2nd fire update: The fence has been rebuilt, the gorse is gone again, but it will come back in a couple of years. The terrain is all you will need to conquer now and that isn't too hard if you look for the best route. The 4wd option has gone and the track is just another gated shingle road now. .
Post fire update: The cache was totally gone, not even a molten blob could be found so I have replaced it with a micro. The track and the scenery have changed totally, it is like being in a different place, but the gorse is making a comeback already. I have upgraded the terrain as it is a little bit trickier to access.
This cache is placed beside the Gorse Track, a paper road that is a continuation of Worsleys Rd. The hills above it were covered in Pine Forest and there are very few places you will need to walk under rocks. You don’t need to reach under rocks to grab this cache, and the hide is nowhere near as bad as the title would suggest. I have driven Hillman Hunters up here in the distant past, but these days if you want to drive to the Cache you will need a pretty well set up 4wd truck with good recovery gear that you don’t mind getting a bit dinged. The track is great for mountain biking and among other options there is a great circuit up Kennedys Bush track and down this one. I guess you could get a horse, a Quad, or a trail bike up here if you are an experienced rider. If you are walking make sure you have shoes that have pretty good grip and ankle support. Do be very careful driving up Worsleys Rd; it is very steep, narrow and winding in places. Expect about a half hour walk up to the cache from the end of the seal Have a look at the CCC MTB map for this track http://www.ccc.govt.nz/cityleisure/gettingaround/cycling/findaride/mountainbiking/worsleystodyerspassroad.aspx For further details on Christchurch Parks and Walkways http://www.ccc.govt.nz/cityleisure/parkswalkways/index.aspx
