Geocache Description:

This cache is to honour Albert Jacka VC, and his time in Heathcote. At the outbreak of World War 1 Jacka was a fencing contractor working for the Forestry Dept in the Tooborac area. He enlisted at the Heathcote Town Hall, but his papers where lost so he re-enlisted in Melbourne 10 days later. At Courtney's Post, Gallipoli, he was awarded his VC, for saving the position from an onslaught of Turks.

OK, This cache is hidden in the area of Jacka Lane, off Warrowitue Rd. Someone has seen fit to remove the Jacka Rd sign to our disapointment, so we're hoping for it to be replaced soon. The cache is a 150mm x 75mm sistema containing a log book, pencil and some laminated VC's to swap. It shouldn't be too hard to find as long as my coords are accurate, FTF can confirm please. Gloves are recomended as Spiders, Scorpions and snakes could be present, also there is a high kangaroo population in the area so travel carfully. It is located by the roadside an not on private land.
A bit more about Albert Jacka, although his stay in the H'cote area was brief he did manage to play football and contest in bicycle races. He was also awarded the Military Cross twice for actions in France. In peace time after the war he was elected Mayor of St.Kilda and never stopped helping other returned diggers in the Depression. He died at the age of 39 and on the anniversary of his death the City of Port Phillip hold the annual service.
