So CZ, you
ask, what is this cache all about, well let me start off by saying
that this is a challenge cache and it's located at the posted
coords. The challenge with this cache is that you have to find 100
waymarks and 10 of them have to be Canadianzombie
waymarks.
What is a waymark you ask, well if geocaching is a treasure hunt,
then it's cousin is a scavenger hunt called waymarking. On the
Waymarking.com site, waymarking is defined
as:
Waymarking is a way to
mark unique locations on the planet and give them a voice. While
GPS technology allows us to pinpoint any location on the planet,
mark the location, and share it with others, Waymarking is the
toolset for categorizing and adding unique information for that
location. Groundspeak's slogan is "The Language of Location" and
our goal is to give people the tools to help others share and
discover unique and interesting locations on the planet. We invite
you to share your part of the world with us through
Waymarking.com.
In the past geocaching.com had
categories like locationless caches, webcam caches and virtuals.
Now they are bringing back virtuals and there are still a few
webcam caches around, but the locationless caches are gone forever
and this is kinda what waymarking is. If you go to the site and
type in a city location or a postal code, you'll find a list of all
the waymarks in your area and the requirements to get them.
Is it hard to do CZ, you ask? Well not at all, you just go to the
waymark and take a picture (although for some, this is not
even required) and tell of your visit in your log. I'm sure if
you went back through your geocaching adventures, you'd have been
to a ton of waymarks and not even known it. In fact a lot of
waymarks are places that are around caches.
If you're anything like me, the challenge with you will be to fill
your "grid" (as of this cache listing, I've got 450 unique waymark
category icons), there are 1024 categories in waymarking and as you
get more unique catergories, you're grid fills up. I've placed
several waymarks around the Kingston area and several already
exist, so doing this challenge should be fairly easy, depending on
how you tackle it.
So you're thinking of giving this waymarking thing a try, but are
wondering how you prove to CZ that you've got 100 waymarks and
that 10 of them are his. Well, like caches, I'll be notified
of your visits to my waymarks and a link to your waymark tally will
be good enough for me.
Okay CZ, I geocache, so why should I try waymarking? Well the
answer to this is simple, waymarking will take you to some pretty
cool locations and spots that you may have never come to before. It
won't be replaced when virtuals come back as the requirements for
virtuals will be much more stringent than waymarks. I said the same
thing a while back, but I've seen some very cool things on my
visits to various cities, where there wasn't a cache nearby, but
there was a waymark.
I would encourage everyone to even put out their own waymarks if
you enjoy it, but this isn't an essential part of this
challenge.
So what are you looking for after you've met and proved the
requirements for this challenge cache. You're looking for
a small sized lock n' lock container, that is in a probably
somewhat obvious (when you get there) location.
I've also included in this cache a FTF prize of a LIMITED
EDITION CANADIANZOMBIE Item , that is in the cache and ready
to be found. I would encourage everyone to give waymarking a try,
it's one of the few activities in the geocaching world that
allows you to visit your own waymarks.
In any event, the goal here is to have fun, be safe and gain some
new perspective on a different area of the caching world.
Cheers
CZ
