Tehumardi öölahing toimus 8. oktoobri 1944 hilisõhtul Kuressaarest läänes Tehumardi küla lähedal Saksa ja Nõukogude väeüksuste vahel. Lahing oli üks Teise maailmasõja veriseimaid Saaremaal.
Aastal 1967 avati lahingupaiga lähistel 21 meetri kõrgune mõõgakujuline betoonist ja dolokivist Tehumardi mälestussammas, mille kõrval on ka vennaskalmistu.
Minu jaoks väärib koht märkimist ka seetõttu, et kalmistul on teiste langenute nimede seas ka mu vanaonu nimi.

This is the place where late in the evening on the 8th of October 1944 took place one of the most horrible battle during the World War II in Saaremaa.
To commemorate the battle, in 1967 a sword-shaped monument was raised, made of concrete and dolomite. Several massive concrete slabs with names of the fallen soldiers, Russians and Estonians, are mounted nearby. Most of them were buried on the site.
In this graveyard is also buried my great-uncle.
