The Piper at the Gates of Dawn was Pink Floyd's debut album. It was released in August of 1967. At this time, the band comprised of four members: Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Rick Wright, and Syd Barrett. The name of the album comes from a chapter title in Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows; Syd Barrett's favorite book.
