Geocache Description:

Located a little off the "Below the Main" trail, you are looking for a 4 inch high dark green canister. Please bring your own pen/pencil!

This is one in a series of five caches to introduce hikers/bikers/geocachers to the woods trails of Hanson Farm, Inc. which is protected by the Land for Maine's Future Program. There's plenty of year-round parking at McDougal's Orchard on Hanson's Ridge Rd. You can enter the trail system by going through the red gates and bearing right onto one of the trails.

Located just off the trail below the main orchard, this cache is filled with noisemakers. As with my other caches, there is either a first, second, or third to find prize - not telling which!! Once the cache has been found three times, it's fine to mention the prize. Please count each of the following situations as a single find: caching alone; caching in a group; joining another cacher who arrived before you did, but who hasn't found it. As for coming upon a cacher who's already found it, please use your own discretion. Have fun!

CLARIFICATION: After reading Marcipanek's FTF Logs, I checked with Ellen/Jack McAdam who run the McDougal Orchard operation and who maintain the trails on the Hanson Farm property The CLOSED sign is for the Orchard business ONLY. DOGS are not allowed within the confines of the actual orchard (surrounded by electric fence to keep the deer out). Animals are only present along the beginning of the Sheep Pasture Trail when the orchard business is open late summer & fall. It is perfectly fine to walk your leashed dog right past this section (issues have arisen with dogs hanging out there and pestering the animals, walking on through is not an issue) or take the Slippery Hill Trail which is a bit before the Sheep Pasture Trail. Just go around the truck parked at the entrance to this trail.

The McAdams were excited that someone had already enjoyed the trails and found the caches. They very much want people to park at the orchard rather than down the hill on the side of the road. Congrats to Marcipanek and thanks for alerting me to the need for clarification!!
