Grandpa's Log Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: Hi There

As the owner has not responded to either my log or my colleague's previous log requesting that they check this cache I am archiving it.

Please note that once the cache has been archived, this can not be undone. This is explained in the Help Center - http://support.groundspeak.com//index.php?pg=kb.page&id=70

You will need to create a new listing, put it back in for review and as long as it meets today's guidelines and no other caches have been published in the area causing a proximity problem, then it will be published.

Regards

Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden in the lovely Selsdon Wood Nature Reserve along a way-marked route which provides a family friendly 2 mile walk, although there is a slight gradient. Park in car park off Old Farleigh Road.

The Area:
Selsdon Wood Nature Reserve (also known as “The Bird Sanctuary” is a 200 acre site on the south eastern border of Croydon. The site is owned by the National Trust, but managed by Croydon Council, who follow a nine year hazel coppicing regime. This ancient woodland is dominated by oak, beech, ash and sweet chestnut and is home to badgers, deer, woodpeckers, owls and bats. It is beautiful all year round, but especially so in Spring when the ground is covered with bluebells, and many birds fill the woods with song.

Further information is provided in a leaflet/map produced by Croydon Council, available at local libraries, or visit the website www.croydon.gov.uk, and look under “Parks and Open Spaces”.

Access:
There is a free car park situated off Old Farleigh Road, which provides the best starting point for this cache, and although there are other access points to the woods, starting here will give you a pleasant round trip of about a mile if you head directly to the cache, or 2 miles if you follow the way-marked “Green Route” (recommended). You can also get to the woods by bus: T33 (daily) to Sandpiper Road, 409 (not Sundays) to Old Farleigh Road, and T31 to Court Wood Lane.

The Cache:
Is a small container with room for mini swappables. We hope you like the slightly unusual hiding place, giving rise to the name. When placed the cache contained 5 competing trackables, please try to help one on its journey!

Cache placed with the kind permission of Community Services Department, Croydon Council.
