Geocache Description:

A Magas Frank-hegyre /Budaörsi-hegy/ hívlak benneteket, egy kb. 6 km-s körsétára. Nagyik és kisebb gyerekek nyugodtan jöhetnek veled. Utad széles kocsiutakon, illetve jelzett turistautakon vezet, mert természetvédelmi területen járunk. Kérlek, ne térj le a jól járható és jól kijárt utakról, csak akkor, amikor a GPS utadra merõlegesen mutatja a néhány méterre lévõ ládát! A forgalmasabb helyeken különösen legyél figyelmes és óvatos! Ha bármi gond lenne a ládával, írj nekem. Kiindulópont a KFKI bejárata közelében lévõ parkoló. Ide is térünk vissza.

KFKI

Az erdei környezetben 1950 szept. 1-n kezdte meg mûködését a Központi Fizikai Kutatóintézet. Kezdetben a legfontosabbak az atomfizikai, radiológiai és kozmikus sugárzással foglalkozó egységei voltak. Majd bõvült a részecskefizikai, magfizikai, optikai, szilárdtest-fizikai, anyagtudományi, ûrkutatási területtel. Nemzetközi sikerek az ûrkutatás területén: mikrometeorit-csapda, doriméter, legnagyobb magyar ûrvállalkozás Vénusz-Halley programban való részvétel. A kísérleti reaktort 1959 márc. 25-n helyezték üzembe. 1975. jan. 1-tõl kutatóközpontként muködött tovább. Önálló intézetekké alakultak a fõbb osztályok.

I would like to invite you to the High Frank Hill (Budaörsi Hill) for a roundtrip of about 6 kilometres. You may safely bring grandma, grandpa or little children with you. The trip goes along wide carriage roads and marked tourist trails because this is a nature conservation area. Please do not leave these obvious roads and trails, only when the GPS indicates that the cache is a few metres away and perpendicular to your current direction! In busy areas please pay special attention and be careful. Should there be any problem with the cache, please write me. The starting point is the car park near the entrance of the KFKI. This is also where you will return at the end of the roundtrip.

KFKI

The KFKI (short for Central Physics Research Institute, in Hungarian) started its operation in this forest area on 1st September 1950.Initially, nuclear physics, radiology and cosmic rays were the most important research departments. Then other areas were added including particle physics, core physics, optics, solid state physics, materials science and space research. International success in the field of space research: micrometeorit trap, dorimeter, Hungary's largest space project with the participation in the Venus-Halley program. The experimental reactor was installed on 25th March 1959. From 1st January 1975 it operated as a research centre. The main departments were converted to standalone institutes.
