This is a Hike and Eat cache. You'll have a total hike of about a mile. And you get a recipe for Campfire Veggies, so you can have a great meal after your hike!
This Hike and Eat Cache is located outside of Grafton, WV in the Tygart Lake State Park. The Woodland Trail runs between the camping and cabin area of the park and Picnic Area #3 near the Administration Building. The Trail is approximately 1 1/2 miles long and includes a steep climb up the hill. You can park at either end of the trail. The cache is located a little more than 1/2 mile from the camping end of the trail.
The cache is located off the trail and requires some bushwacking. The cache is a camo-taped 2 inch PVC pipe. It is small, but has room for a log, a pen and a few small items.
This cache is an easy find once you get to ground zero. It is so easy, that there are no hints, except that it is not on the ground. It might be possible to find it in the snow, but getting to it then will be greater than a 3 difficulty.
Enjoy your hike and your Campfire Veggies!
Ingredients:
Tomatoes
Green Peppers
Onions
Squash
Butter
Seasoning
Slice all veggies. Place on a good size piece of heavy duty aluminum foil. Add a slice of butter and seasoning salt or fresh herbs - oregano, rosemary, thyme are all great. Fold the foil so it doesn't leak. Wrap in a second piece of foil. Put over the fire or in the fire pit. If you put it in the fire, put it at the edge and turn frequently, so the veggies don't burn. I put mine on the grill for 15 minutes or so before I put on my meat. When I put the meat on, I move the veggies to the edge of the grill. There is no exact time, you just want the veggies to get cooked til soft and the juices flow through them all. Open and eat from the foil. I make individual size packets, so everyone gets their own. The veggies cook more evenly that way. I've used broccoli, corn, etc. Experiment with your favorite vegetables!
