Geocache Description:


As one pases under the stone arches, one seems to step back in time. The setting, not far removed from the town centre, is a huge bowl of serenity with its water pond feature in the middle. From the early 1700’s it was a busy working quarry, and it provided the stone which built the youghal Quays. In the 1800’s came the reclamation of the low land and stone from the Quarry was used for the construction of a sea barrier – The Slob Bank. The stone was transported on wagons on a rail track from the quarry across the fields to the slob area.

The water from the Quarry spout in the lower left corner of the park has always been well known for its health giving goodness. Pouring in a never-ending flow from the pure rock, it is always fresh and cool. For hundreds of years, people from the surrounding area brought buckets of water home for daily use.

There is a treasure of wildlife in the cliff face whick include sparrowhawks, blackbirds, redwing, great tit, goldfinch and bullfinch. Common mammels in the area are hedgehog, leisler’s bat, fox and stoat.
There is an abundance of flora, Hawthorn, Honeysuckle, and Ivy for example
