Geocache Description:

Take your family to this enjoy this year-round scenic location that offers hiking, picturesque views and geographical education. The St. Louis river is home to kayaking, white water rafting and awesome views especially after Spring thaw or a large rainfall.

I was asked by the scoutmaster of the local Boy Scout Troop to assist the boys in earning a new Geocaching merit badge which had recently become available. We met several times to talk about the history, the mechanics, and the etiquette of geocaching. We covered things such as how to use a GPS’r with maps and a compass, entering coordinates, how to prepare and hide a cache and the concepts of Cache in, Trash out.
As a final requirement we planned and hid this geocache and the boys are monitoring the logs of other geocachers who find it. Feel free to write a comment about your own experience with or as a boy scout; they will enjoy hearing it.
The cache is placed in one of Carlton’s most scenic areas. Allow time to view the Minnesota Power dam and hike through the woods to the old railroad bridge on the Willard Munger Trail.
Be careful of your footing; the terrain can be challenging in some places, especially in the winter!
Take a tip from the scouts motto: Be Prepared!
