This cache is located in an easily accessible location near the Eagle Lake Marina. Everyone can see the lake from this location and is close to the general store and camping locations.
This cache was placed in memory of Les Cooney, Captain of the Rescue California Fire Department in the 1980's. Les brought his family to Eagle Lake every year for their family vacation. Les passed away in 2007 and it was only fitting that we remember him with a cache at his favorite fishing place.
The following tribute was written by Al Durst and is included in the cache.
"The Legacy of Les Cooney"
Many of us from time to time have been known to contemplate our legacy wondering such things as how we will be thought of in the years to come. Unfortunately, most of us have never had the opportunity to be the best home run hitter in all of baseball, or the chance to be the Heavyweight champion of the world, or be an Olympic medalist, or, for that matter even achieve or "15 minutes of fame" by appearing on TV. So, we turn to the slightly more mundane questions. Are we now, and have we in the past fulfilled the plan that God had for us? Have we been a good example for our children, our spouses and our friends? Will we be remembered fondly in the years to come for the contributions that we were able to make to society in general and to those whose lives intersected with ours?
Les, you could probably have been an Olympic champion, or the best home run hitter in baseball, or led your team to the Super Bowl. It is doubtful, however, that you would have been imbued with any less than the highest integrity, that you could have lived with more intelligence, wisdom, and the willingness to share every last bit of it with any of us who know you. It is difficult to imagine that you could have loved and sacrificed for your wife and all of the rest of your family any more than you have. You have implemented God's plan to perfection. It is hard to articulate how much I value being a part of your family, but suffice it to say, I am proud of you and I love you.
