Geocache Description:

The Massachusetts Avenue Bridge has been carefully measured in Smoots, a unique unit of measure. Count the smoots on the way to the cache.

The Harvard or Mass Avenue bridge has a long and storied history. The cache is near a pedestrian entrance to the bridge iteself.

In May 1908, Harry Houdini performed one of his patented escapes on the bridge. Handcuffed and shackled, he jumps into the river from the south end of the bridge, only to escape.

In the fall of 1958, a MIT fraternity used their own frat brother, Oliver Smoot, to carefully measure the bridge. The bridge is officially 364.4 Smoots, plus or minus one ear.

Appropriately Oliver Smoot went on to work for the American National Standards Institute and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

The Houdini plaque is on the south end of the bridge. Count the smoots as you head north and visit the 50th anniversary memorial to Smoot's great claim to fame at the Northwest End of the bridge.

You are looking for a camoed bottle, with a certain attractive element to it.
