This is our second geocache placement and the first geocache in San Jacinto. The cache is hidden within the San Jacinto River floodplain near State Street and Sobaba Road. The best way to enter the area is from the gate on the east side of State Street at (N33 49.044 W116 58.346). Using the private road or trying to park on Sobaba Road and crossing the river are not recommended and unnecessary. The walk to the cache is approx. 1/2 mile and fairly easy. Enjoy the trees!
I used to take the dog and wife for walks along here when we lived in San Jacinto. The area is scenic with North Mountain, the riparian vegetation and the river, which actually is a river when it rains enough. The Fall colors are usually very nice. Some maps show this area as a County Park, but the park is unimproved. Other nearby points of interest along Sobaba Road include the Paintball area, the Sand Drag area (twice a year), the Sobaba Casino. You can also see the MWD Colorado River aquaduct where it exits the tunnel from under the San Jacinto Mountains. The cache is an ammo box that is well hidden from plain view and must be uncovered. The cache contains a yoyo, 2 cars, a PT Cruiser, 1st-3rd place ribbons (please take accordingly), Counter Terrorism Team, 2 cell phones, inline skates, diary, WD-40 shop cloth, Disney Space Mt. Story book, and log book with pencil. Please completly cover the cache back up before leaving.
