Geocache Description:

Een mooi plekje in Grimbergen, het thuis van de Fenix. A nice spot in Grimbergen, home of the Phoenix. Un bel endroit à Grimbergen, maison du Fénix.

Over de abdij van Grimbergen:

In 1128 bouwde de Heilige Norbertus in de Brabantse gemeente Grimbergen een abdij voor de kloosterorde der Norbertijnen. De paters leggen zich toe op de kunst van het brouwen.
De abdij was gekend voor zijn gastvrijheid en gaf pelgrims en reizigers in vaak woelige tijden een veilig onderkomen. De Norbertijnen zetten hun gastvrijheid kracht bij met het zelfgebrouwen bier. Met de grootste zorg en precisie werd het recept op punt gebracht. Eeuwenlang gaven de paters-brouwers zorgvuldig het recept door.
De abdij van Grimbergen is verscheidene malen verwoest geweest door branden, doch steeds herrezen. De fenix, die terug te vinden is in het logo en op het etiket, symboliseert deze wederopstanding.

Over de Fenix:

De feniks is een fabeldier uit de Griekse mythologie en de Chinese mythologie.
De Grieken geloofden dat de feniks in staat was steeds weer opnieuw uit zijn eigen as herboren te worden. Hij zal bovenin een boom van kruiden een nest maken en daarin verbranden. Door de geur van de kruiden zal hij opnieuw geboren worden.
In de Chinese cultuur staat het dier voor het vrouwelijke geslacht op de wereld.

"Home of the Fenix":

Met de mythologie van de Fenix in gedachte en zijn link naar Grimbergen, is het idee van deze cache ontstaan. We zijn in het bezit van 2 Fenix Travelbugs. Deze zullen ook de mythologie van de Fenix volgen. Telkens we op reis gaan, dan gaan ze met ons mee ("verbranden in het nest"). Ze worden dan op reis in een cache weer uitgezet. Hun doel is om terug te komen naar de "Home of The Fenix" cache ("opnieuw geboren worden").
Op de waypoint van de parking zie je de imposante toren van de abdij staan. Een beetje verder zie je een van de vele watermolens van Grimbergen. Als je tot de abdij wil wandelen, dan ga je naar coordinaat: N 50° 55.996' E 004° 22.232'.

About the Grimbergen Abbey:

In 1128, Saint Norbert built in the Brabant town of Grimbergen an Abbey for the order of the Norbertines. The fathers dedicated to the art of brewing.

With the mythology of the Phoenix in mind and it's link to Grimbergen, the idea of this cache was born. We are also owning two Phoenix Travel Bugs. These will also follow the mythology of the Phoenix. Whenever we travel, they go with us ("burn in the nest"). They will then be released again in a cache at our holiday destination. Their goal is to return to the "Home of The Fenix" Cache ("to be born again").
At the waypoint of the parking you can see the imposing tower of the abbey. A little further you see one of the many watermills of Grimbergen. If you want to take the walk up to the abbey, then head to the following coordinates: N 50 ° 55.996 'E 004 ° 22.232'.

A propos de l'abbaye Grimbergen:
