Weekly Summer Allowance: Crystal Skull Creek Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Groundstate: Was a great series ender in the summer of 2011, but damn! Why would I want to lead anyone out here otherwise? Conditions for retrieval of container were worse than placement! For anyone wondering, this is just as dense of an area in the winter as in the summer.

Geocache Description:

Intro Details:

This cache is the series final and contains 5 FTF prizes: each a small carved crystal skull. Choose from amethyst, hematite, onyx, tiger eye or aventurine. As well, the cache is a very large container stocked full of a variety of other items so there is much to be found even after the skulls have been discovered. To solve the formula below and obtain the coordinates for this cache, you need to complete the 7 regular caches. You will need the ‘lucky number’ written on the inside lid of each cache. The 7 regular caches are GC2ZD0J, GC2ZK07, GC301B5, GC30GY6, GC30H05, GC31F4W, GC320G6.

Specific Details:

I am apologizing in advance for this cache. Most often the location chooses the cache: you see a great spot and go home thinking about how to devise a cache to put there. I was sure that was the case with this series final as well. I have had the location in mind for a while. But I just came back from placing the container and I was mistaken. This time the cache chose the location and I just didn’t know it until I got out there. I thought the skulls were just a neat and interesting find to include with the final – I didn’t know they would be so representative of the placement. Make no mistake, this is tough location that is really going to test your willingness to push forward. I hate to say this, but it is definitely not recommended for children. Be sure to wear pants and long sleeves. Rubber boots are not necessary but would alleviate concerns and make your progress easier to the final.

Sum up all of the ‘Lucky Numbers’ found inside the lids of the 7 caches in this series. Take the posted coordinates of this cache and use the lucky-number-sum as follows:

N 42 57.(975 – sum of lucky numbers + 137)

W 079 01.(467 – sum of lucky numbers + 282)

This will bring you to stage 1, where you will find a container hidden inside an old paint can. I’ve tried to devise a real FTF race at this point. You will be provided with the coordinates for stage 2, which will give you specific instructions on getting to the final cache. However, you will also be provided with the coordinates to the final cache itself. Therefore, there is an interesting twist for the FTF-racers, especially if you feel as though you are behind someone. There is a chance to get ahead of them, if you trust your bushwhacking skills.

1. If you go to stage 2, it will take you longer to get to the area of the final but you will have better instructions for progressing once there. Park at N 42 58.014 W 079 01.551 to continue with this option.

2. If you instead decide to head right to the final, you will get to the area faster but you will likely find your progress more difficult. Park at N 42 57.806 W 079 01.284 to continue with this option.

Don’t forget to find “Another Nice Trail” (GC1N81W) before you leave!
