Geocache Description:

Local teenagers keep snaffling this one so we've gone a bit sneaky. In plain view if you know what your looking for.

The church of St Peter Howden known locally as Howden Minster was once the winter refuge of the Bishops of Durham or as a stopover on their journey to London/Canterbury. The east of the church is in ruins (in the care of EH) and just beyond is the Bishops House just to the south east now used by the Press Assn. This is a fine building visable for miles (esp the motorway M62 bridge)having a green roof and the town deserves a look around before moving on.
