This is a medium size cache located in some woodland just outside Northop. The track through the woods can get a bit muddy sometimes so please take care!!
These woods were a great place to visit when I was a child, you could walk to them straight through Bryn-a-Garreg, in Flintmountain before the A55 was built in the late 80's. Parking is a bit tricky, there is room for one or two cars just off the old A55 in the lane leading up to Rhosesmor at N53 12.744 W003 09.240.If you walk back over the old A55 go on to the pavement and turn right, go along the path for about 100 yards and you will see a metal gate on the left hand side just opposite where the black and white chevron signs start.Climb over the gate to enter onto a track leading into the woods.
These woods were great for building dens and walks as you follow the track down you will come past what we thought was an old quarry. Take a minute to have a look round and see some of the old names carved into the stone and strange metal brackets attached to the stone, we never knew what these were for,but please take care!. As you continue along the path the woods flatten out a bit on the right and if you were to carry on a bit further you might see what we thought were old Italian prisoner of war huts.
The cache is close to the site of llys edwin, where once stood a castle, many of the places in Flint mountain are named after this including the school and care home.
This is a medium screw lid container with a log book and a few goddies inside. It was placed for our son William and his friend Fran who are keen geo-caches!!
