Geocache Description:

This old church is the last standing evidence of Wheelerwood. A town that was started in 1859 and died out around 1915 sometime. They had your basic staples and many jobs were created around the railroad and the old creamery in town. It was named after J.S. Wheeler since he owned most of the land around that area at that time.

People came and went and soon the town was forced to die off. What was left standing only a few years ago was a house a church and some outbuilding along with much evidence such as a wagon wheel dug up here, or various artifacts found there.

Why do I know this you ask? I was born and raised in that last remaining house. The house was built in 1880 but around 10 years ago, it was turned into a field.

If your local, check out the Manly public library (town not 6 miles NE of Wheelerwood) there is a book that serves as a collection of Wheelerwood history and people.

Happy caching! Black colored Mayo Jar with small items and a log sheet with pen.
