The cache is a stainless steel water bottle covered in black
tape. Inside, sealed in a plastic bag, are a logbook and pencil
plus some tradable items. Included among these are a set of magnets
featuring architecture from an American city. Bonus points if you
can name the city and major bonus points if you know the name of
any of the buildings.
There are two access points for the trail to the waterfall. The
first is from the Observation Point near the World War II monument
in Pushchino. Descend any of the trails there toward the river and
follow them west. The trail is routinely traveled and
well-maintained, but can get overgrown in spring and summer. Still,
it is typically easy to follow. You will pass by an
official-looking water management building, but the folks here are
friendly and accustomed to other visitors on the path. There is a
sign reading Прохода
нет ("No entry"), but this refers to the boat
dock, not the path, so you can continue on the route that doesn't
go directly to the water. As you follow the path you will encounter
several forks. Generally you want to continue parallel to the river
but not go directly down to the riverbank. After a mile or so you
will begin to hear the waterfall and can follow the sound to the
correct location.
The other access point is much closer to the waterfall, but more
difficult to find. It is a quarter mile south of the waterfall
along a dirt road west of the Pushchino town center. You can leave
via this point if you walk south from the waterfall (you will see a
natural spring) and ascend some wooden steps until you reach the
dirt road.
The town of Pushchino is a Science Center and contains seven
biological institutes affiliated with the Russian Academy of
Sciences. It's a peaceful place that's easily accessible from
Moscow. A bus to Pushchino runs about every 1-2 hours from the
Южная (Yuzhnaya) metro station. Exit
the station on the east side of the street and you'll find a line
of buses just south of the retail buildings. One of them is marked
for Pushchino. The trip takes 1.5-2 hours and buses run the other
way leaving from the Pushchino bus station.
