Geocache Description:

This is a 5 mile circular walk through countryside taking in Whissendine and Ashwell on well-kept footpaths.

This cache is placed with the kind permission of the landowner. We decided that as the Letterbox type of cache is becoming more popular we would put one out in memory of the letterboxing we did in the 80's with our teenage girls on Dartmoor. It really encouraged the not so keen walkers in the family to take part! The cache is a medium-sized clip lock box with room for swaps, TBs and geocoins. It also contains two stampers for stamping your own logbooks - please leave them in the cache. If you do not have a stamp of your own to put in the cache log please do a sketch, drawing or cartoon. This is just for fun so do not worry too much about your entry. Note: the stamps have dried up - we are trying to source some new ones. The walk includes one or two inclines and several stiles and narrow bridges to cross; it is therefore unsuitable for wheelchairs and buggies. It is an ideal walk for dogs, but they should be kept on a lead whilst on public footpaths crossing farmers' land (there are several notices to this effect). Part of the walk is along the road through Ashwell (so watch out for cars). Most of the road walking is on pavements, but not all. The walk can be undertaken from either village and in either direction but the parking co-ordinates given are in Whissendine. It is a circular walk and the final bonus cache is not far from the parking area. The walk follows part of the Rutland Round and takes in two of Roger Rabbit's Rutland Round caches (with a third one not too far off route) - these are, however, Premium caches. There are three other caches on the walk and two more in Whissendine village itself. There are 15 caches in the series plus the bonus and a mixture of container types, some with swaps which may keep children interested. Each cache in the series contains a number or clue for solving the co-ordinates of the bonus cache so be sure to write them down if you're hoping to find it. Not all caches have a pen/pencil, so please remember your own.
