Geocache Description:

Welcome to Westfield Corners…
or at least that is where you should end up if your math is right!
We thought this area needed a cache to reveal the history that has been long forgotten. The first coordinates take you to Middle Creek Church & Cemetery. Once there, look to your right or NE (behind the neighboring house). There you should see a tomb that was once the final resting place for Joseph Medill McCormick. According to the church's website, it was his wish to "rest by the country church which he loved so well." Please admire the tomb from a distance. After some time, he was moved to the cemetery in front of you.

****Please respect the cemetery hours, as posted. DAYTIME CACHE ONLY!!****

In order to get the coordinates for the actual cache, you need to find his headstone in the cemetery and use the following table to “get the numbers”.
1. What is the total when adding YOB & YOD= _________ + 10,094 = W089._ _ . _ _ _?

Don’t overthink this next one…
2. After finding out this “distinguished gentleman’s” occupation, where did he spend a lot of time (two words)?

_ _ P _ _ _ _
_ _ L _

3. Using only the first word from the above answer, decipher the needed coordinates:
A=1 E=5 I=9 M=13 Q=17 U=21 Y=25
B=2 F=6 J=10 N=14 R=18 V=22 Z=26
C=3 G=7 K=11 O=15 S=19 W=23
D=4 H=8 L =12 P=16 T=20 X=24
Now using the above first word and table solve for the North coordinates:
__ + A = __
__ + A = __
P - O = __
__ - G = __
__ - O = __
__ - M = __
__ - G = __

The coordinates you have deciphered will take you along the old stage coach route to Westfield Corners, which was the first settlement of Elida (now Winnebago). The building you find here is one of the churches of Elida and the schoolhouse was to the east, across the road. The cache is hidden just to the southwest of a stand of trees, the former site of the Elida Post Office.
Good luck and have fun!
