Geocache Description:

Ganryujima is an uninhabited island located in the Kammon Straits between Honshu and Kyushu.

It is famous for the duel of Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro.
On April 13, 1612, Miyamoto Musashi fought his duel with Sasaki Kojiro, who was known as "The Demon of the Western Provinces" and who wielded a large two-handed sword. Musashi came late to the appointed place — Ganryujima island. The duel was short. Musashi killed his opponent with a wooden sword that legend says he had carved from an oar used on the boat that carried him to the island.

On the island, there are a few monuments, rest houses and a restroom. No store there so bringing your own drink is recommended. The island is accessible by ferry boat from Karatsu Pier, Shimonoseki Harbor (Honshu side) or from Mojiko Pier, Kitakyushu Harbor (Kyushu side). Enjoy a short cruise to a treasure island!
