The brick building was built in 1916 as the city elementary school, and now serves as the Public Library. The statue is of Anna Howard Shaw, who grew up in a floorless log cabin a bit north of Big Rapids, and became a physician, the first femal ordained Methodist minister, and a famed orator. She worked for the right of women to vote, but died just a year before the 19th amendment was ratified.
Look for a small pill bottle. You have to squeeze to open it-- it will not twist or pop open. Bring your own writing implement, and please place the cache back in its cradle.
