This cache was launched to coincide with the Geocaching Block Party (GC30VZ2) held in Springfield on International Geocaching Day 2011. It was quite original when we placed it. Now there are copies. Such is geocaching - I've lowered the difficulty rating to reflect such. ********************************************************************************* CONGRATULATIONS FTF: MADCAT! *********************************************************************************
Small cache. BYOP. Being 'small' there is only room for the log and very small tradeables so coins is my chosen theme: Please trade any types of coins: foreign, Geocoins, Pathtags etc. ********************************************************************************* This cache was placed with the kind permission of Rick Lott, then Executive Director of the Effingham Chamber of Commerce. If you have time and it's open, be sure to go in the visitor center; it's quite lovely inside and the staff are friendly and welcoming (although I'm not sure they ALL know about geocaching!), Be sure to thank them for allowing us to place a cache there :) ********************************************************************************* Welcome to Springfield! I'm a British geocacher and I moved to the USA right here in Effingham in September 2010. "Welcome" is what I received, and a warm one at that (actually, very HOT compared to English weather!). So I decided to place a cache at the Springfield visitor center and Effingham Chamber of Commerce. Being British and still struggling to get to grips with American coins (nickels and dimes! Why is the big one worth less than the small one?) I decided to make it a coin exchange cache and I started it off with some English coins. It also contains one of our very own home-made coins, minted by wonderful husband Newmarch, as a FTF collectible. Effingham has its British links too: it was named after a British nobleman famous for his protest against the war against the American colonies. For those interested in more information, please visit these websites: The name "Effingham": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Howard,_3rd_Earl_of_Effingham Springfield history: http://www.effga.com/springfield-history.htm Effingham County (GA) Chamber of commerce: http://www.effinghamcounty.com/ Rick Lott of the chamber doesn't think anyone will find the cache but I assured him that geocachers are resourceful folk ;-) Thank you for visiting.
