Someone once asked, "
Y are you a Mets Fan?" Now that's a very easy answer - 1986 was the year when I started to follow baseball as a child. Baseball has always been my favorite sport since that memorable fall.

Normally a kid roots for his hometown team, but not me. Once I was old enough to start following baseball, it was the New York Metropolitans' 25th season, and perhaps their most memorable ever. The season started off with manager Davey Johnson telling his players that not only would they win, but they would dominate - and do so they did by winning their division by 21.5 games! History would be made that October when young guys like Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, Ron Darling, Sid Fernandez and Lenny Dykstra would help veterans like George Foster, Keith Hernandez, Gary Carter, Wally Backman and Mookie Wilson move onto the World Series by beating the Houston Astros in the lone MLB playoff series in which the opponents were two "expansion" teams that had begun play in the same season (1962). In Game Six of the '86 World Series, my beloved Mets were rallying in the bottom of the 8th inning when Gary Carter hit a sacrafice fly to tie the game. Now fast forward to the bottom of the tenth inning with two outs and Ray Knight on second base when Mookie Wilson would hit an easy, slow rolling, grounder up the first base line for what should have been an easy third out to put the game into an 11th innning. Game announcer Vin Scully had the call, "So the winning run is at second base, with two outs, three and two to Mookie Wilson. (A) little roller up along first... behind the bag! It gets through Buckner! Here comes Knight, and the Mets win it!"

Congratulations to Ms. Sunshine, JJnTJ, proutkat, Sharknose Bunnies and sparkyfry on the 5-way co-FTF. And a bigger congratulations (sorry guys) to CTForester for the very quick FTS! I'm just glad I didn't promise $5 to each person in the FTF team or I could have been broke!
