Geocache Description:

 A spelling Challenge Cache!
Can you spell O-T-T-A-W-A ?

Of course you can! But there are conditions, it won't be as easy as you think...
and when going to seek it, remember it's NOT at the posted coords.

the rules:

Log one cache that begins with each letter - that's easy!

Caches can be anywhere in the world, not just in the Ottawa area - ok!

Each cache found must have a different icon - doh!

All finds for this Challenge Cache must be made after 1 Sept 2011 - DOH!!

That's hard enough, I won't make you do them in order! - whew!

After you've qualified, there is one additional cache to find - oh..

So let's see... ‍Trads,  Multis, ‍Puzzles... plenty to choose from there.

About a dozen Letterboxes and half a dozen  Earthcaches in the local area that qualify.

There is one each of the grandfathered Webcam and  Virtual cache types.

Other than that, you can keep watch for a new  Wherigo or Event starting with O-T-T-A-W-A.

Or you could travel to a different area to complete your list.

That's why it's a Challenge Cache!

the puzzle:

The posted coordinates are for Lisgar Collegiate, where many Ottawans famous and otherwise refined their spelling skills before being loosed upon the world. They also teach math there. The cache is not on the campus but is less than 500m away.

When you've finished your Spelling Test, you must answer the following Extra Credit question before you can search for the cache:

Determine the numerical values of the letters in O-T-T-A-W-A. Calculate
the sum and the digital root (d.r.) for the vowels and the non-vowels.

Use the non-vowels to find the BEARING:
d.r.  x  'T'
Use the vowels to find the DISTANCE:
( sum + d.r. )  x  ( 'A' + 'O' )

logging:

After you've completed the prerequisites (6 caches that spell O-T-T-A-W-A), go and find the cache and sign its log sheet. Then post your 'Found It' log here including cache Names, Types and Dates. I'll contact you only if I have a problem verifying them.

Example:

     O - GC1QMK4: O'Connor Giants, Traditional, 5 Sept 2011
     T - GC2F770: Tyndall Stone: Manitoba Rocks!, Earthcache, 16 Oct 2011
     T - GC2M4KC: Tour de la Paix / Peace Tower, Unknown, 2 Sept 2011
     A - GC13QZH: ...And Justice For All, Multi, 1 Sept 2011
     W - GCD838: Wave the Flag, Webcam, 3 Oct 2011
     A - GC1R1JK: An Ode To Brian, Letterbox, 30 Sept 2011

The 3.5 difficulty reflects your overall effort; the cache itself is an easy classic hide.

questions:

• What's the fine print about cache names?

Ignore any punctuation (such as quotes) at the beginning of a name. Any cache starting with 'A...' or 'The...' counts as an 'A' or 'T' respectively. Anything that starts with 'GAG' is not applicable to this Challenge Cache, but everything that starts with 'OMAX' is.

You may not use a cache whose name starts with a number.

• Do an Event and a CITO Event count as different icons?

Yes! [updated Dec 2012 to give you more icon options now that Challenges are retired]
The Event can be one you hosted yourself.

• Why do my finds have to be on or after 1 September 2011?

If you're asking because you hoped you could fulfill the requirements with caches you've already found, and not have to do any more work, SORRY - get searching! Otherwise there's no significance to September 1, it's just an arbitrary start date to make it easier for me to verify your finds.

• I've already found all the local caches - !!

Well then, keep OTTAWA in mind when you travel! There is no geographical restriction on which caches you use. And no hurry either - this Challenge Cache has no FTF prize! New local caches are published nearly every day, or look forward to possible Events in 'April', 'August' or 'October' — Happy Hunting!
