Geocache Description:

One of five Prairie Research Institute geocaches.

The Illinois Natural History Survey (INHS) is part of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The INHS mission is to investigate and document the biological resources of Illinois and other areas, and to acquire and provide natural history information that can be used to promote the common understanding, conservation, and management of these resources. The staff of the INHS maintains scientific research programs in basic and applied ecology, systematics, and biogeography that not only enhance traditional research strengths but are also capable of addressing emerging issues relevant to the conservation, management, and sustainable use of biotic resources. INHS also will act as a stable, long-term repository of biological collections and ecological data, promote cross-disciplinary collaboration to address complex ecological issues, incorporate new and more powerful analytical methods, and disseminate information on the ecology and biodiversity of Illinois to the scientific community, government agencies, and the general public. If you should happen to collect this cache during normal business hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) please feel free to enter the building and look at the displays and posters on the first floor.

Cache may be difficult to collect during Illinois home football and basketball games. Cache is a micro, so BYOP.

UPDATE 6/8/13: The new location is now a type of cache that isn't always liked by geocachers, but I hope the container still gives you a smile.
