Il Santuario della Madonna di San Lorenzo, si trova a Guanzate, un
paese di quasi 6.000 abitanti della provincia di Como. Di origini
molto antiche, sorge in una zona già precedentemente dedicata alla
venerazione degli dei.
Infatti in epoca paleocristiana esistevano qui degli edifici
religiosi, fu poi con il cristianesimo che la zona fu
“convertita” e, nel VI secolo fu edificata una chiesa
dedicata a Santo Stefano.
La struttura religiosa attuale risale al 1497, anno in cui venne
affrescata l’abside con l’immagine della Madonna del
Latte; in un primo tempo era solo una cappella, ma poi fu ampliata
nel corso degli anni.
Nel XVIII secolo viene costruito il lungo e suggestivo viale
d’accesso al Santuario, composto da un lungo manto
d’erba costeggiato da gelsi e abbellito successivamente con
le 14 Cappelle affrescate della Via Crucis. Il trionfale ingresso
del viale, ad esedra, che ancora oggi accoglie il visitatore,
presenta dei piloni su cui sono poste le statue di pietra dei
profeti Isaia, Geremia, Ezechiele, Daniele, opera dello scultore
Antonio Gelpi, che curiosamente gli abitanti di Guanzate chiamano i
quatr’oman.
Posteggiare nel vicino parcheggio del Santuario, recarsi al
waypoint e contare il numero di persone che sono raffigurate negli
affreschi a mezzaluna sotto il porticato della chiesa: [N].
Recarsi alla cappella [N] lungo il viale della Via Crucis.

The Santuario della Madonna of San Lorenzo is located in Guanzate,
a little town of nearly 6,000 inhabitants of the province of Como.
Of ancient origin, is located in an area previously dedicated to

Park in the car park near the Sanctuary, go to waypoints and count
the number of people who are depicted in the half circle frescoes
in the arcades of the church: [N].
Go to the [N] chapel along the Way of the Cross.
