One of five Prairie Research Institute geocaches.
The Illinois State Archeological Survey (ISAS) is part of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The ISAS mission is to investigate, preserve and interpret the archaeological heritage of Illinois within the contexts of long-term public needs and sustainable economic development through its scientific research, public service, education, and outreach activities. An integral part of ISAS’s mission includes the curation of extensive archaeological research and museum-quality collections, that include artifacts from over 3,000 Illinois sites. ISAS actively partners with numerous public interest organizations to preserve archaeological sites in conservation areas and parks across the state. ISAS is especially interested in working cooperatively with Illinois businesses to aid in incorporating heritage management and preservation into sustainable economic development. This cache is a small sandwitch-sized lock-n-lock container hidden under a rock that has a home-made petroglyph carved into it. The petroglyph is a motif that I have seen in several places in Illinois and should be vaguely familiar to geocachers.
This cache may be difficult to collect on Illinois home-football game days.
