Geocache Description:

Along the D&H Rail-Trail

Coordinates will take you to the Crossing. Go 15 feet North.

Find this cache and try to imagine across the street a Railroad Station. The Erie Station it was called. The Delaware and Hudson Railroad began in 1828 as the D&H canal which ran from Honesdale to Kingston NY. Later came the gravity railroad which ran from Carbondale to Honesdale; and then in 1868 the D&H entered into contract to build a track north from Carbondale to connect with Erie at Lanesboro. This track was originally built to transport coal from the Lackawanna Valle to distant markets to the north and east. By 1915, there were four D&H passenger trains traveling this line each day. The track from Carbondale to Susquehanna was called the Jefferson Division of the Erie Railroad and the depots were called Erie Stations.
