Geocache Description:

Near the old Village Green in the former heart of the old Colony Farm community. Park at the end of the road and walk back.

This geocache has been placed near the old Village Green in the former heart of the old Colony Farm community, of which only 2 buildings remain. (visit link)

In recent years, a labyrinth (not a maze) has been cut into the lawn here for the Midsummer Fete each June and it usually survives most of the year so have your self a contemplative wander as you ponder the location of this geocache (also a good place to wear out a junior cacher quickly). If you come during the Fete, the Green will be over-run with muggles so enjoy the event instead -- it's great fun! (visit link)

As you approach the Village Green, you will notice some several trees and large stumps -- these are the remains of the stately elms that once lined the driveway but have succumbed to the rising water table once the farm was taken out of production and the drainage pumps turned off. The trees around the Village green have fared a little better with several species surviving. On one edge of the Village Green is a lone tree not often seen in this area -- a chestnut (Castanea species), not to be confused with the horse chestnuts (Aesculus species) that shade the parking lot nearby. In autumn there are lots of chestnuts in the grass along the parking lot fence -- have you ever played a game of conkers?

The cache is a micro with a first-to-find prize of an Entertainment Book coupon for an appy at a local pub and a special limited edition FTF medallion created by the junior member of our team (clipped to the outside of the container). Cache contains a pencil nub to sign the log, but as always, be prepared and bring your own just in case it's blunt.

Parking is at the end of the road, just past the Village Green, beside the community gardens -- park and walk back. Or bring your bike as there are lots of gentle trails here.
