Simpson Park is a beautiful park with nice views, a lake, picnic
grounds and tables, a pavilion, restrooms and a playground. The 72
acre lake is a nice spot for fishing, canoeing and kayaking, and is
fed by the Grand Glaze Creek. The creek enters from the northwest
and the water exits over a spillway / dam at the southeast corner
of the park. There is a soccer field and other areas for play. More
than a mile of paved trails exist which are nice for hiking and
bike riding.
The land originally belonged to the Simpson Company which
produced Meramec sand, gravel, and asphalt. The Missouri Department
of Conservation manages the lake and it’s fish and at times
stocks it with crappie and catfish. A boat ramp exists in the
northwest corner of the park. Fishing boats with trolling motors
are permitted, but outboard motors are prohibited. Fishing for
crappie and bass from the shore and the fishing dock is popular
with fishermen.
From the fishing dock you can follow the shoreline around the
lake to the west on the Blue Heron Trail. It is a paved trail and
nice for bikers, skaters, walkers and joggers. The park is also a
part of the Meramec Greenway bike trail on the south edge of the
park near the Meramec river. This trail goes east for one mile into
Greentree Park in Kirkwood, and extends west about two miles to
just past 141 to Meramec Landing Park in Valley Park.
You are looking for a plastic peanut container. It is big enough
to hold TBs and some swag. The area is thick with trees and
satellite lock might not be good. Follow the trail from the parking
lot along the lake. When you get near the creek look for the tree
with the steel cable. The cache is attached to the steel cable with
fishing line to help keep it from wondering off. You do not
need to cross the creek to get this cache.
Congratulations and FTF honors to spongy163, Strider,

Special permission to
hide caches in St. Louis County parks is NOT needed as long as the
Groundspeak rules are followed. "Blanket Permission" has been
worked out in advance with the park service. DO NOT CALL THE PARK
as they cannot handle the calls. The Groundspeak cache reviewer
does need to know exactly how and where the caches are hidden and
what type of containers are used. The geocaching liaisons will
notify the park service of new caches. Remember NO AMMO BOXES or
PVC PIPE caches. |
