Cache is placed in the area of a recent flash flood.
In the early morning hours of July 21, 2011 the Constantinide family were evacuating from their campsite nearby as heavy rains were causing concerns of flooding. Seconds after turning onto Highway 130, the family van was washed into Brush Creek and swept 75 yards downstream. Laurel Constantinide and her three young daughters died in that tragedy. Her husband, Alex not only survived, but also aided in the rescue of Saratoga Mayor John Zeiger, who had also been swept downstream after his vehicle entered the creek while he was assisting in the evacuation and rescue efforts.
This cache has been placed very near the site of this tragedy. It is a large ammo box that contains a barbie doll, a Tinkerbell story book, a small baby doll, a Memorial Hospital of Carbon County lanyard and bracelet, as well as an Emergency Medical Technician geocoin. As usual, there is a log so that cachers may record their visit, but there is also an additional
notebook included. The purpose of the second notebook is so visitors can,
if they choose, record any thoughts, feelings or messages that they wish to express. Visitors may choose to leave their messages for future geocachers to read, or may choose
to take them with them. Either way, the purpose of this cache is to remind us of the
blessings in our lives, and to tell the ones we love what they mean to us everyday.
Happy Caching!
