This cache is part of the North Dakota Parks & Recreation Department's "Play in Our Backyard" geocaching contest. Information pertaining to this contest can be found within the cache and/or our department website at http://www.parkrec.nd.gov/activities/geocaching.html.
Daily entrance fee is required in the amount of $5/vehicle/day or $25 for the annual pass. No entrance fee pertains to those that hike or bike in from town. A short hike on easy terrain will get you to this cache.
This park is the western terminus of the North Country Trail, which traverses seven states and over 3,200 miles to upstate New York. You will only have to hike a short distance to the cache, but you will want to continue on and explore the park! Keep your eyes open for a wide variety of wildflowers, birds and other wildlife. Be sure to stop at the visitor center and learn more about what you saw and the history of Sakakawea.
The park has a full service marina, picnic shelters, playgrounds, camping, cabins and interpretive programs all available during the summer months as well as woodticks and mosquitoes!
Park at the visitor center and follow the North Country and Overlook Trails to the coordinates.
