Geocache Description:

Maro Creek Station

This property started with the purchase of 2 sections (156 and 157 Hundred of Cameron) by Mr James Rogers Bidgood as well as the purchase of another 3 sections (158,159 and 160 Hundred of Cameron) by Mr Henry Cook Bidgood, both aquired their land on 5th August 1869.The origial homestead was located on section 156 and although it has been modernised a few times, it is still there today.
Mr J.R. Bidgood purchased surrounding sections, some from the Crown, some from other land owners and built up a large property.Mr J.R. Bidgood also expanded to the east of Lake Bumbunga and north of the lake on the eastern side.
Unlike the Hummocks Station owned by Mr Robert Barr Smith, this property remains in the hands of the Bidgood family and is still expanding its holdings in the district,it now owns land on both sides of the Barunga Range as well as all its aquired holdings.Today the property is run as a sharefarm enterprise with the current Manager and his sons as well as the Bidgood family. This property has a cropping area of 1500 hectares as well as 4100 hectares for grazing, giving a total of 5600 hectares. With most of the land grazing it is understandable that livestock(mainly sheep) make up a large portion of the enterprises activity.
At one stage there was brush fence on the western side of the Barunga Range so as to contain the sheep on that side within the confines of the Maro Creek holdings buts as more land was purchased as well as the utilization of wire fences, this came into disrepare and eventually was removed.
The current property has its shearing shed, shearing quaters and a numer of other houses situated at the original settlement plus a number of other buildings sitauted around the holding.
The cache is easily found and the current manager knows all about its location. Please respect their privacy and leave as found.
