Heading WEST on the A44 the lay-by is on the right, 1 mile after Eisteddfa Gurig, just around a sharp right-hand bend - so start to indicate early and slow down!
Heading EAST on the A44 the lay-by is on the left just before a sharp left-hand bend.
The orange SOS call box is visible as you drive along the valley.
Please note: Lay-by is not accessible in deep snow conditions...see photo!

Parking here gives you a lovely view down the Dyffryn Valley with the Afon Castell running down to join with the Afon Rheidol. Red Kites and Buzzards are seen flying in this area. The surrounding mountain tops are over 500m - 1600ft. You are on the southern edge of the Pumlumon Fawr range, where around it's periphery three rivers have their origins - the Wye and the Rheidol and the Severn which is the UK's longest. The highest point of this mountain range is Pen Pumlumon Fawr at 752m - 2467ft, located 4km north of the road.
