Geocache Description:

This cache might be a bit of a challenge. The cache site is a short walk from a parking lot and easy travel. The coordinates were confirmed using Google Earth so they should be correct.

I spent a good part of my growing up time not far from here. Among other things, this street had the first haunted house in the region. This cache is placed at what used to be my Aunt Edna’s garage on this same site. It turns out that Asheboro's Main Street was originally, well, the town’s main street. The main business thoroughfare (and downtown) eventually shifted to the downtown bypass, Fayetteville Street (where it is today). 100 North Main Street, prior to 1911 when the house there was built, was the site for the town’s newspaper. When I was younger we used to find the old lead typeset around and under the house. During the days when Main Street was the main street there were buildings like Aunt Edna’s garage that were lawyers’ offices. Apparently there were a bunch of them. This garage in its former life was one of those offices. At some point it continued life as a garage and was then returned to its first job when Edna’s home was razed to make the library parking lot. Prior to its transformation we used to sit on these steps, eat penny candy, and read comic books from the little store down the street. It's amazing to learn back stories. That's part of what I've enjoyed about geocaching. I hope you enjoy the cache. Congratulations to Guitarmantoo on the FTF, his first one and hopefully the first of many!
