This cache takes you to a historic 3.5 story, 45’ x 55’ limestone grist mill. Built in 1853, it predates the famous Motor Mill by 11 years making it one of the oldest still-standing mills in the area. The undershot wheel in the basement was powered by a millrace (no longer there) supplying water from nearby Buck Creek.
Driving directions: The drive to the cache starts in Garnavillo on Clayton St. from highway 52. The street quickly turns into well-maintained gravel. The travel distance is about 2.2 miles from town with the last 1.5 miles being a narrow deadend road. (Note that the deadend might not be cleared of snow in the wintertime.) Public parking is available at the mill and near the cache as this is a main access to the nearby trout stream for fishermen. The mill structure and the property it is built on are privately owned so please do not trespass. It is not necessary to find the cache.
The cache: This is a replacement cache container with only a logbook. Bring your own pencil. Please sign the log, trade fairly, and return the cache to its original location and state of concealment for others to enjoy.
