Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Herman Vogler Conservation Area at the north edge of Rogers City. The hiking trails in this park are great (except for the signage). The cache is within ten yards of the trail, but the hike to hit all the caches in one trip is over two miles round trip.

The Herman Vogler Conservation Area trail system traces a path through a constantly changing blend of habitats that range from hardwood highlands to cedar thickets and marshes, all wrapped around the nine-acre Trout River Flooding. The HVCA is also home to a wide variety of wildlife. The multi-use area consists of 270 acres of public land, approximately one-third of which is within the city limits of Rogers City. The Trout River crosses the property for 3,500 feet, and several other small creeks, including the important brook trout nursery Hartwick Creek, feed the mainstream and the Flooding. Forests in the tract include ancient stands of cedar and mature hardwoods. The HVCA contains more than seven miles of trails, all used by hikers, XC skiers, bird watchers, hunters and other nature lovers. Be aware of hunting seasons from Sept 15 to March 31. The area is managed by the Presque Isle County Soil Conservation District as a conservation education & recreation area

The signs on the trails are being redone. Some are missing, others are flat-out inaccurate. We strongly recommend you print out the map from the related website at the top of this page. A good walking stick and mosquito repellant are also a real good idea. Shorts ARE NOT a good idea for this cache unless you have masochistic tendencies. Shoes that can handle wet areas are needed in the spring & after heavy rains. Park in the small parking area for easiest access. This one of several caches in this park, most that can be located by hiking around the lake (see the aforementioned map). In some areas high grass is present. Be sure to check yourself for ticks when completed.

The cache itself is a half gallon tupperware clone, covered with camo-tape and sporting the usual geocaching label.
