Geocache Description:


 

Discover your Florida history through museums and archaeological sites in this unique 
geotrail developed by the Florida Public Archaeology Network and partnered with the Florida Park Service and Florida Geocaching Association. DARC stands for Destination Archaeology Resource Center, a museum exhibit inside the Florida Public Archaeology Network headquarters administered by FPAN and the University of West Florida.
 
Geocaches have been hidden at several participating sites arcross Northwest Florida. All the sites  on this geotrail are connected to Florida archaeology and are featured in the Road Trip Through Florida Archaeology exhibit at the Destination Archaeology Resource Center in 
Pensacola, FL. The first 300 participants to locate at least 10 DARC geocaches will receive a traceable, special edition geocoin produced specifically for the DARC geotrail.
 
To receive geocoin particpants must download the DARC Geotrail passport and follow directions on the back. 
 

HERITAGE PARK 

 

You will be seeking a small official geocache container. The cache is not located inside the museums. You will find the clue that will lead you to the code word on the first page of the logbook. The answer to this clue is the code word for this cache.

 

The City of Fort Walton Beach Heritage Park & Cultural Center includes the Indian Temple Mound Museum, Camp Walton Schoolhouse Museum, Garnier Post Office Museum, Fort Walton Temple Mound, and the new Civil War exhibit. Experience the preshitoric people, Civil War era, and homesteader life of Ft. Walton Beach through interactive, educational exhibits. 

Together these four museums and National Historic Landmark form a cultural center which presents the history of Fort Walton Beach area from prehistoric times, the Civil War as it relates to the region, the first school in 1912, and through the close of the post office in the 1950's.

There is an admission fee to enter the museums which can be purchased inside the Indian Temple Mound Museum. For more information visit www.fwb.org (click museums).
