Geocache Description:

This Event is brought to you by the members of: GeocacheAlaska!
Working hard to promote Geocaching in Alaska! Please join us today!

Welcome to Spenard's Indian Summer Event!
GeocacheAlaska!, Inc. has rented the pavilion in Sisterhood Park (off Van Buren St behind the Spenard Rec Center), beginning at 2pm. The covered pavilion's huge charcoal grills will be fired up to cook a simple but tasty selection of burgers and dogs - to feed your appetite after a full day's Cacheapalooza across Anchorage. While the meat is provided (courtesy of GeocacheAlaska!, Inc.) we ask you to bring a side dish or tasty dessert to share
(here's your chance to warm up for the dessert competition upcoming at December's GeoFest!)
Help us plan for success by registering your intent to attend early - we want everyone to have fun!

There are picnic tables under the pavilion cover for dining use, and a special table will be available where Travelers (trackable TBs and geocoins) can be shown for display or to travel on. If you bring items for display please mark them clearly as exhibit-only items.

Leave your yard chores behind - you've already noted the 'No Treeclimbing Allowed' cache attribute - the clearest way we could symbolize there's no worries about falling leaves (and their consequences) at this location! Although Sisterhood Park might be described as a flat and featureless plain of grass better suited to use as a rugby pitch, it's ideal for several varieties of GPS skill games set up for this event. The park itself is centrally-located for the Spenard Safari Game taking participants across the core of Spenard towards the end of this 2pm to 5pm event. There's prizes and raffle items galore... all waiting for you!

Join us from 2pm to 5pm for a bit of geocaching fun in the "historic" old Alaskan town of Spenard!
Up until borough unification with the city of Anchorage in 1975, Spenard was a city unto itself, with a population exceeding 20,000 persons during the early pipeline construction days. Spenard has always been known as
'where Anchorage goes to have fun' since Joe Spenard bulldozed Spenard Road into existence in 1916,
so Anchoragites could come out for parties along the shores of Spenard Lake.
